Need Help with Mold Remediation in New Providence – Call SERVPRO®

Mold spores are virtually everywhere in our homes and outdoors in New Providence. In damp conditions with organic material available, mold colonies can begin growing within twenty-four hours, producing a strong, musty odor. Our homes experience high humidity during humid weather or when there is a small leak or condensation from AC systems.

SERVPRO has helped many customers in New Providence with mold remediation after a colony has been established in their homes. Mold can often be found in dark, warm, humid areas of the house with a moisture source. One of the first activities our team completes identifying the source of moisture and working with the homeowner to eliminate this source. Failing to remove the source of moisture or water usually will enable the mold to return.

SERVPRO's mold remediation process follows industry standards and includes the following steps (Note: We work closely with the homeowner at all times):

  • Perform an inspection and assess the mold damage
  • Contain the mold colony
  • Set up air filtration to avoid mold spores contaminating the rest of the house
  • Remove all mold-infested contents and structure
  • Thoroughly cleaning all surfaces and contents
  • Completing repairs and restoration as required

Homeowner's first indication they have a mold problem is a strong, musty odor permeating the air in their home. The smell may be noticed in an unused area or throughout the entire house if a significant mold colony exists. Any delay in dealing with the infestation allows the infestation to continue growing and potentially cause additional damage to contents and structures. Immediately eliminate the moisture source and call our team to assist. We can be on-site in less than four hours from your call.

Contact the experts in mold remediation services at SERVPRO of Western Union County and nearby areas for assistance. Let them help you solve your mold-related issues. We are Here to Help® 24/7. Call (908) 791-9177.

A Mold Inspection in New Providence Homes Can Reveal Hidden Mold

5/22/2023 (Permalink)

SERVPRO Helps Repair Mold Damage in New Providence

Every building has the potential for microbial growth when there are favorable conditions. Molds flourish in damp and warm areas of your New Providence home, including kitchens, bathrooms, and laundry rooms. Mold often propagates in hidden places, like inside walls. For instance, if a pipe inside your wall has a small leak, you may not be aware of it for a while. Moisture can lead to significant damage, including mold.

The best way to determine the levels of microbial growth is with a mold inspection of your New Providence home. Even if no mold grows in your home, you may have areas at risk. Sure signs indicating the presence of mold in your home include discoloration on surfaces and a musty smell. When mold is active, it off-gasses, which causes an odor. However, the mold is likely dormant if there is visible growth but no musty odors. SERVPRO helps you rule out mold presence; if it’s there, our teams have experience dealing with the microbes. We carefully contain the area, clean moldy surfaces, and treat the area to inhibit further growth.

Other things that a mold inspection can reveal:

  • Mold spread patterns
  • Sources of moisture
  • Condition of the structural materials

The Mold Evaluation Process

With visible growth, inspection is not necessary. However, a mold inspection is crucial to determine how much mold is in your property and how far it has spread. Through assessment, we identify the source of moisture fueling microbial growth and stop the infiltration. The source of water helps us determine where to look for mold. If the cause of dampness is not identified and eliminated, the problem might return, and remediation efforts become futile. Our IICRC trained team also examines the internal surfaces, walk-through of sections like;

  • Attics
  • Basements
  • Crawl spaces
  • Storage spaces

For professional mold inspection services in your home, call SERVPRO of Western Union County at (908) 791-9177. We’re Faster To Any Size Disaster.

Effects of Mold Damage on Materials and Air Quality in New Providence Homes

SERVPRO Can Provide New Providence Residents with Expert Mold Remediation Technicians

Mold can eat away at clothing, drywall, and organic matter. It can also be challenging to remove due to the penetrative hyphae, which allows these microbes to cling onto or to surfaces. Some microbes do not need light to grow, which means an infestation can stay hidden for several weeks or months. You must enlist a professional remediator if you suspect or discover microbial growth in your property.

Local remediation technicians can help restore mold damage in your New Providence home. We use cutting-edge technology to find the sources of microbial growth and eliminate them. Once the source of the problem is resolved, it is often just a case of disposing of moldy materials and cleaning surfaces to get your home back to its preloss condition. Like all living things, microbes require moisture to grow. If parts of your home smell musty or have a visible infestation, there is likely a moisture problem. Our technicians use moisture sensors, meters, and thermal imaging cameras to search for potential water leaks or vapor damages in the home. This equipment measures wall or surface temperatures to calculate the likelihood of moisture residing in or behind them. We are halfway towards solving the microbial issue by correcting the moisture problem.

Another core condition for the reproduction of microbes is energy. Mold uses digestive enzymes to break down organic matter, which they convert into energy for growth. A home environment is full of organic matter; it is the wood frames deep in the building assembly, the subfloor, and the interior surfaces like drywall. Denser materials such as lumber wood can often be restored by either cleaning the surface with anti-microbial chemicals or removing layers using sand-blasting equipment. In rare situations, lumber woods may have an abnormal moisture content, measured using a penetrating meter, which can be the source of the infestation, commonly called dry rot. Porous materials such as plyboards, gypsum boards, or drywall often suffer more from microbes which makes replacing them a requirement. SERVPRO technicians can professionally remove and replace infested materials that are deemed non-salvageable.

Preventing Microbial Growth in the Home

  • Maintaining insulation in garages or exposed areas is a useful preventative measure for condensation damage.
  • Crawlspaces can become wet during periods of heavy rainfall. Installing a vapor barrier can be both energy efficient and protect against infestations.
  • If water pressure drops, it can result from a slow leak. Using professional plumbers or water restoration technicians to repair the problem.

Infestations can harm indoor air quality. When mold grows into full-size colonies, it begins to release spores into the surrounding atmosphere. Spores are microscopic seeds that settle on surfaces where they can grow into new colonies. While spores are airborne, they can be ingested or inhaled by occupants in the home. One method of tackling this air quality issue is air filtration devices (AFDs). This equipment is measured by the size of particles they can filter, with certain types going as low as 0.3 microns. A human hair, by comparison, registers at 70 microns. SERVPRO technicians can set up AFD devices in affected areas of the home to clean the air and ensure that your property fully recovers after an infestation.

Air Filtration Devices

  • High-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters are the best at removing microscopic matter from indoor air, including spores.
  • These devices can also use carbon filters which help to remove odorous particles from indoor air spaces.
  • Active air purifiers can also purify indoor air by releasing ions that attract and neutralize potential contaminants into the space.

If your home emits a musty odor or has a microbial growth problem, contact SERVPRO of Western Union County for mold damage removal at (908) 791-9177.

Our technicians receive ongoing training in the techniques of mold removal. Our New Providence customers needing mold removal services benefit from having up-to-date removal and remediation technicians who understand the latest developments. Much of our training is based on IICRC guidelines. The course instructors who provide our training are also certified by the IICRC.

Here are a few of the reasons we engage in continuous training:

  • New developments in building materials,
  • Scientific discoveries regarding microbes, and
  • New types of equipment are purchased.

When new materials to be used in building homes come on the market, SERVPRO wants to know how these can impact our customers who are already dealing with water disasters. Microbes can grow on non-cellulose materials if the dust settles on them long enough. Other new materials might also provide locations for microbial colonization. We want to know how to treat this new material without damaging it.

New microbes are continually being discovered. Some might require different handling methods that allow us to continue performing excellent mold removal work. New discoveries can help us provide better services to our customers.

Other times, the new development is closer to home. We often purchase new equipment to help us work more efficiently and provide our valued customers with the best possible services. Knowing how to use each new piece of equipment before arriving at a customer's location means less time spent learning and more time handling a disaster with skill and expertise.

Become Familiar with New Providence Fire Damage Disaster Recovery

6/30/2022 (Permalink)

Smoke coming out of windows Fire loss incidents can affect your home in many ways, but SERVPRO of Western Union County team can help.

Before We Begin Cleaning Smoke Damage in New Providence Homes

As much as homeowners want to have their properties back to preloss conditions as quickly as possible, rushing to restore New Providence residences after a fire can do more harm than good. With every scenario offering unique challenges for even our professional SERVPRO fire restoration specialists, we must carefully determine the full scope of the damage, the spread of these conditions, and the most efficient and effective approaches to fully restoring the property.

Smoke damage and effects can be among the worst lingering examples of fire damage in New Providence homes after an emergency. Because of its ability to affect the property in more than one way, our Fire & Smoke Restoration Technicians (FSRT) must stay trained in the latest and most effective practices for addressing residues, debris, and odors that smoke can leave behind. Before we can begin cleaning damaged areas, however, there are preliminary steps to help ultimately make these restorative actions more successful.

One of the first steps we must take is identifying the full extent of these damaging residues. Between smoke and soot, coatings could spread out far from the initial source of the fire. Careful inspections can determine how fire and smoke moved through the structure and residues directly impacted each surface. We would also use this opportunity to discover the type of residue, as there are different practices for restoring smoke, soot, and other coatings we might encounter after a fire.

Before cleaning the residue away, we must consider the type of surface and the best approach to capture and remove soot and smoke particles from this material. Because of a bonding that occurs, which can also lead to staining with improper cleaning techniques, taking an extra bit of time to identify the best cleaning approach for the material type protects both the material itself and prevents particulates from getting stirred up into the air.

Fire loss incidents can affect your home in many ways, but our SERVPRO of Western Union County team can help. Call us anytime you need us at (908) 791-9177.

Mold Remediation of Contents of New Providence Homes

SERVPRO techs use a methodic approach to maximize the efficiency of mold remediation in New Providence homes. Mold can cause significant damage to the contents, including structural components of your property. Hence, the restorers must implement effective strategies to limit this damage.

SERVPRO techs follow IICRC S520 guidelines during mold remediation of New Providence properties, ensuring a safe and efficient job. Effective restoration of contents involves meticulous planning and flawless execution by the restorers. Consequently, SERVPRO techs take extra care while performing the damage assessment of the contents. Some of the decisions that they take during this phase of the process include:

  • Categorizing the content items by their restorability
  • Determining cleaning requirements
  • Providing options to the customer as to the relative cost of cleaning versus replacement
  • Identifying contents that require remediation by specialty cleaning professionals

Content Cleaning Methods Used by SERVPRO Mold Specialists

SERVPRO techs select a cleaning method that is the best one for the given situation. Techs spend time understanding the material composition, condition, and location of the content before deciding on any cleaning method. In some cases, SERVPRO techs use a combination of mold remediation methods to increase efficiency.

The three fundamental content cleaning methods that techs use during mold removal include:

  • Air-based methods: HEPA vacuuming and air washing are the two most popular air-based cleaning methods that SERVPRO techs use for semi-porous and non-porous surfaces.
  • Liquid-based methods: Rely on the water combined with a physical or mechanical cleaning process to dislodge contamination. Ultrasonic cleaning, steam cleaning, and high-pressure washing fall under this category.
  • Abrasive methods: Use a medium or material to dislodge contamination. Sanding, sand, and soda blasting are examples of abrasive cleaning.

Fire Restoration in New Providence Homes Demands Expertise

Hire SERVPRO to Perform Fire Restoration in Your New Providence Home

The U.S. Fire Administration shows that fire causes losses worth billions of dollars every year. After the fire trucks have departed, who you get in contact with determines how fast and effectively you can repair your home.

SERVPRO has a team of well-trained technicians who conduct fire restoration in affected New Providence homes. We can save you the headache of restoring your house to its normal condition as fast as possible. Our process is dependent on the state of the damaged structures and contents. It may include the procedures outlined below:

  • Inspection and assessment
  • Structural shoring
  • Water extraction and drying
  • Removal of smoke and mitigation of smoke damage

SERVPRO offers an immediate response, and when we get on the scene, we can inspect your house to determine its safety. We can then carry out a detailed assessment of the extent of the damage to help us formulate the most effective restoration plan. We can also document the damage for insurance claims purposes.

If the fire damage is severe, we can carry out some security measures like structural shoring to maintain your home’s structural integrity. Structural shoring involves temporarily supporting a property so that it does not collapse. This procedure offers vertical or horizontal bracing so that restorers can safely provide mitigation services.

If your home has pooling water resulting from fire suppression efforts, our SERVPRO restorers can use electric submersible pumps to extract it. We can position air movers and dehumidifiers to dry everything up.

Our SERVPRO team can also perform all the structural cleaning required to eliminate smoke residues. Our technicians can then use air scrubbers to ward off the smoky smell left behind. Air scrubbers eliminate airborne particles, gases, and odors from the air. They work by drawing dirty indoor air through several filters, capturing the odors, gases, and particles, and then exhausting clean air back into the environment.

SERVPRO of Western Union County can handle the fire damage in your home to make it “Like it never even happened.” Contact us at (908) 791-9177.

Do Antimicrobial Products Remove Mold from New Providence Homes?

3/4/2022 (Permalink)

Got mold? Mold remediation for your home is no DIY pooject. Call SERVPRO for fast and immediate service you need.

We have multiple mold removal approaches for damaged properties in New Providence.

The location of mold damage is often a determining factor in the ideal remediation approach to remove and eliminate active colonies and organisms from a household. With the common threats of microbial growth, removing these organisms should begin as soon as our team arrives. Common areas to find mold growth include:

  • Bathroom
  • Attic
  • Basement
  • Crawlspace
  • Garage

Cleaning Mold-Damaged Surfaces

Surface cleaning is an effective solution for mold removal in New Providence homes. The use of antimicrobial products and sporicidal solutions eliminates surface mold on contact and can be effective on multiple types of residential mold. This option is most effective when in the earliest stages of mold detection, where the organism has yet to sit deeply into hosting materials like drywall.

Preventing Mold Growth

Another practical reason to attempt service cleaning strategies before other more aggressive approaches is the ability of these products to reduce the possibilities of further mold colonization. Surface treatment can involve making hosting elements uninhabitable to active spreading colonies in damaged areas. This can be an effective treatment before surfaces get repainted or refinished to protect them against future growth concerns.

Sanding and Dry Ice Blasting

There are times when more aggressive mold remediation tactics will be necessary. As effective as surface treatment can be for specific types of damage, abrasive cleaning like sanding or dry ice blasting can be suitable for organism infestation that spreads beyond the initial surface layer. In the most extreme cases, controlled demolition can be an effective strategy to eliminate mold and prevent it from spreading.

Removing mold can involve many different practices depending on the severity of the situation and the affected materials. Our professionals were quickly determined where remediation is necessary and the most efficient solutions for protecting your property and its contents. Our efforts begin as soon as you call our SERVPRO of Western Union County team at (908) 791-9177.

Stages of Removing Harsh Odors After Scotch Plains House Fires

SERVPRO fire sign SERVPRO fire damage restoration techs have the experience and tools to remove the odors left from fires. Call now for the help you need.

Post-fire damage effects can be overwhelming to clean or remove from Scotch Plains properties.

After a fire, many loss effects threaten the structure. We have experienced professionals to address the pressing needs of the property and lingering effects like harsh malodors.

Fire Debris Removal and Surface Cleaning

Fire damage in Scotch Plains homes can point to many compromising effects. When looking to reduce and eliminate strong odors, multiple practices are encouraged to lessen the strength for more efficient deodorization later on. This process begins with fire debris removal and continues with soot cleanup.

Smoke and Soot Cleanup

The removal of smoke residues can also reduce the severity of smoke odors. These soils on surfaces retain burning smells from the materials affected, so when these residues get removed, the formidable offensive odors they generate are discarded as well. Cleaning up soot and smoke damage on surfaces includes approaches like:

  • Wet cleaning products
  • Dry chemical sponges
  • Dry vacuums
  • Media blasting

Air Filtration and Improvement

HEPA filtration and air scrubbing equipment are used to trap and contain circulating particles and microscopic smoke solids that increase the concentration and strength of post-fire malodors. These filtering products improve the indoor air quality as restoration continues.

Full Deodorization Equipment

Among the final stages in removing these harsh odors from the house is introducing our powerful deodorization tools to the equation. Elements like our ozone machine produce unstable compounds that bond with odor molecules and neutralize them on contact when occupants of the house have been displaced for the restoration process. This is among the most effective odor neutralizing practices from equipment in our inventory.

One of the obstacles after fire damage is removing harsh odors from the property. This is an intricate process that begins as early as the mitigation phase and continues through the final steps of restoration in the property after much of the cleanup completes. Our SERVPRO of Western Union County team helps make it “Like it never even happened” when you call (908) 791-9177.

A Restoration Firm Like SERVPRO is Knowledgeable About Water Remediation in New Providence

Water damage is a common problem that property owners face. If this unfortunate incident has occurred to your home, you need the assistance of a reliable restoration firm like SERVPRO. Acting fast to repair your house is important. The most common sources of water damage are leaking pipes, burst pipes, or malfunctioning appliances.

Performing water damage repair in your New Providence home can be challenging, especially if the water has met the drywall, which makes up your interior walls or ceilings. It can make them unsightly or ruin the wallboard enough so that it collapses and falls apart. SERVPRO can get the repairs done by taking the following steps:

  • Signs of moisture, failing structural integrity, or dripping water.
  • Look for sagging or crumbling ceiling drywall panels due to the water that saturates the porous gypsum material.
  • Remove damaged drywall – Wallboard that is heavily water-infiltrated can sag from ceilings or crumble when touched.
  • Make repairs – SERVPRO can patch the ceiling or wall by measuring and replacing the rectangular or square area of the wall with water damage.

Apart from repairing the damage, our SERVPRO team can also clean up the affected area to leave it in its preloss condition or better. We also use air movers and LGR dehumidifiers to dry homes. Dry air is an essential tool for drying damp materials. When airspace is dry, there is less moisture in the air.

If you have water damage in your home, call SERVPRO of Western Union County at (908) 791-9177 for prompt repair. We’re Faster To Any Size Disaster.

SERVPRO Tears Down Assemblies to Facilitate Mold Removal in New Providence Homes

Mold can grow silently within wall cavities without any visible signs, especially if there is a cover such as wallpaper fixed atop the drywall panels that hide the early telltale signs of mold, including spots and patches. Seeking help from mold specialists immediately you realize there is a problem is essential.

Wall assemblies are made up of different materials, so the mold damage in your New Providence property is likely to vary. The porous materials such as drywall and insulation are heavily affected since hyphae penetrate such materials as the mold exploits the organic matter as a food source. Tearing down and removing such materials is the best solution. The wooden frames and other structural elements can remain, but they require treatment to contain the infestation.

Tearing down moldy materials is a risky process since it can release harmful residues and spores all over the house, endangering everyone in the vicinity. Our SERVPRO technicians wear protective equipment like respirators and bodysuits. We also set up containment enclosures around the sections we demolish to ensure the moldy residues remain in place. We also use Sporicides to treat the structural elements before drying the property. Our services are ideal for addressing:

  • Black mold
  • Attic mold
  • Bathroom mold removal

SERVPRO of Western Union County readily helps in case of mold damage. Call us at (908) 791-9177.

Why Should a Homeowner Look For Mold Removal Companies That Understand Containment?

9/29/2020 (Permalink)

Mold on a white wall Let SERVPRO help your New Providence property before mold spreads too far.

New Providence Homeowners Looking For The Most Effective Mold Removal Companies

Many people living in New Providence lead busy lives without much free time. That means that when you need to hire a contractor to take care of home repairs, you want the quickest and most efficient service.

This is especially true when you need mold removal companies in New Providence. No one wants mold in their home, so naturally, you want to have someone remediate it quickly. Mold removal is a complex process with several steps. Thankfully, SERVPRO of Western Union County knows how to get the best mold remediation results.

Adequate containment is key to mold removal. To understand why we first need to know how mold spreads and grows.

How does mold spread?

When you see a patch of mold in your home, you see something called the mycelium. This is a network of tiny tube-like cells called hyphae. Mold is parasitical, which means the mycelium grows by consuming the organic matter on which it lives. The food source is most likely to be wallpaper, drywall, wood, or canvas in your home.

Mold contains many microscopic mold spores. The spores detach from the mycelium and travel on the air currents. They can also travel on your clothes or shoes, your pets’ fur, or the HVAC system. To grow, mold needs:

  • An organic food source
  • Moisture (which is easy to come by in the bathroom, kitchen, or laundry room)
  • The correct temperature and a dark environment

Once the spores find a place with the right conditions, they will form a new mycelium.

Can I stop mold from spreading?

It is challenging to stop spores from spreading because they are so small. You cannot see them, so you have no way of knowing if they are in the air or on your clothes. However, we can use containment to prevent spores from escaping during mold remediation.

What is containment and why does it matter?

Containment means setting up physical barriers to prevent mold spores from spreading. SERVPRO technicians set up a structure around the affected place, using plastic sheeting to cover the area and create a seal.

How does SERVPRO set up containment?

Our technicians know that there are a few things to be mindful of when setting up containment:

  • It is not enough to cover the area – we need to cover windows and doors where we are working, too
  • It is vital to cover all fans and vents
  • Containment should not be larger than required, as smaller containments are more effective
  • Containment structures should have as few seams as possible, and these seams must be tightly sealed, so there is less chance for spores to leak out
  • A good setup is not enough – we also need to monitor the air pressure differential inside the structure

Does containment stop mold from coming back?

Unfortunately, it is not possible to stop mold from coming back. Because the spores are microscopic and can be found everywhere, they can re-enter your home. However, containment can help reduce the risk of this happening, because:

  • It stops mold spores escaping into the rest of your home
  • It increases the number of mold spores SERVPRO removes from the air
  • It captures any mold spores that come loose during the mold cleanup process

What happens inside the containment area?

There are several things we can do to remediate mold inside the containment area. We use scrubbing, wiping, and gentle abrasion to remove mold colonies. We can apply disinfectants and microbial agents. In some areas, we can use baking soda blasting to rub away the mold.

We also bring in air scrubbers and negative air machines to capture spores. Air scrubbers have powerful filters that trap spores and stop them from re-entering the room. Negative air machines vent the contaminated air outside of your home, which removes spores and also changes the air pressure, so it is even more challenging for spores to escape.

Our technicians are vigilant about using protective equipment and removing it before entering the rest of your home so that we do not carry mold spores throughout your house.

What happens after mold remediation?

After mold remediation, we will deodorize your home. The air scrubbers we use during remediation are great for deodorizing, and we can also use carbon filters and a range of odor-eating products to get rid of leftover mold odors.

Our team will remove all traces of the containment structure, leaving your home “Like it never even happened.” We will also check in with you after a week to answer any questions.

If you need a mold removal company you can trust, call SERVPRO of Western Union County (908) 791-9177.

Should I Restore or Sell My New Providence Home After Damage By A Fire?

8/29/2020 (Permalink)

Burnt house after the fire Your decision to restore or sell your fire-damaged property should not be based on fear.

SERVPRO Helps New Providence Homeowners Understand Fire Damage Restoration Processes So That They Make the Best Decisions

In the aftermath of a fire, decision-making is probably one of the main challenges you face. For instance, you may debate within yourself whether to restore the home or sell it. Your apprehension for restoration may stem from the fear of dealing with contractors, city inspectors, and other parties whose expectations might not align with your specific goals. SERVPRO can help you restore your New Providence home to its preloss state hassle-free and thus save you the disadvantage of selling a damaged home.

What are the possible disadvantages of selling a fire-damaged home?
Although performing fire damage restoration at your New Providence home may seem like a hassle, selling has some challenges too, including:
    •    A significantly lower selling price compared to property value
    •    It can take time to find a buyer
    •    You have to cover the closing costs

Even when you decide to sell, some work around the property is still necessary since you need to protect the damaged house to stop further deterioration and possible liability issues in case someone is injured at the site.

Is it possible to carry out stress-free fire restorations?
With the right resources, the seemingly insurmountable restoration task is easier to handle. Engaging a professional restorer like SERVPRO gives you immediate access to all the resources needed to clean and repair damaged areas. We also help with the other inconvenient aspects of managing the restoration, including:
    •    Documenting the loss for insurance purposes
    •    Protecting the property during the renovation
    •    Safe handling of dangerous materials
    •    Ensuring all renovation process comply with government regulations

Loss documentation is an elaborate process that requires identification and proper recording of the loss details. With help from our technicians, you have the added advantage of having a trained eye scrutinizing the loss site, thus identifying some grave issues that you might dismiss. We also capture photos and videos of all the areas affected by the fire, thus making it easier to prove your claim.

What type of protection is necessary for a fire-damaged house?
After the fire is quelled, there is a need to board up the house to protect it from weather elements, small animals, and other dangers. Boarding up helps seal all openings created by the fire, whether it is shattered windows or openings on the walls. You might also need a temporary fence around the property to keep people from approaching the property. As already highlighted, protection is necessary whether you have chosen to sell or to restore the property.

In case of restoration, our SERVPRO technicians can help you board up the property easily. We use plywood panels and solid wood planks such as two-by-fours to create secure barriers around the doors, windows, and other openings that you would want to seal.

What is the best way to address dangerous materials found at the loss site?
The fear of injury or other adverse effects caused by dangerous materials at the fire loss site can make restoration seem like a risky proposition. However, knowing what risky materials to expect and having the right protective equipment to handle them minimizes the risk. Some of the typical dangerous materials found in fire-damaged houses include:
    •    Frayed or melted electrical cables
    •    Toxic substances like dioxin released from combustion
    •    Hazardous materials like asbestos or lead

Our SERVPRO technicians wear protective gear such as rubber boots and nitrile gloves when venturing into the damaged property. Visual inspection of the charred remains can help identify the main hazards to expect the loss site and the action to take. For instance, we can take specific containment steps, such as using heavy-duty sealable plastic bags to collect the materials. When performing cleaning procedures or other steps on areas with hazardous materials such as asbestos, disturbing the materials is the main threat. Our technicians identify any areas with such materials and avoid them until proper removal is possible.

What legal perspectives should I be aware of when restoring my property?
Flouting state or local authority rules can lead to penalties, especially on issues such as:
    •    Garbage and refuse management
    •    Housing rehabilitation
    •    Construction codes
    •    Obstruction of streets and sidewalks

However, that should not hinder the restoration of your property. Our crews receive up to date training on government regulations that affect any aspect of restoring damaged properties.

Your decision to restore or sell your fire-damaged property should not be based on fear. SERVPRO of Western Union County can help ensure you are fully informed. We also assist in lightening the load for you. Call us at (908) 791-9177. We’re Faster to Any Size Disaster.

Using these tools, our teams can pinpoint moisture hotspots and can deploy drying equipment to mitigate structural water damage in your home.

My New Providence Living Room Appears Dry, Why Does It Have a Musty Water Odor?

SERVPRO Technicians Locate and Remove all the Water From Your New Providence Home, so There are No Issues Afterward

Two main types of water loss happen in your home. The water you can see and the water you cannot. The latter is what leads to:

  • Foul odors
  • Damage to building materials
  • Potential for mold growth

What Can a Water Damage Restoration Company Do That I Can't?

When SERVPRO handles water damage restoration within New Providence homes, they use their advanced moisture detection equipment to rapidly determine if there is seepage under flooring, wicking within sheetrock, or in other non-exposed areas where water migrates.

Once the accurate scale of the loss area gets mapped out, the techs remove the water using their extraction equipment. One key element of the removal phase is when the maximum amount of moisture gets lifted, it works to lessen the time needed for drying the loss area and lends a hand towards a more favorable outcome from this type of damage.

When water contains sewage or has aged beyond 48 hours before cleanup started, the removal and disposal become more severe as it requires handling as a biohazard. When this situation arises, SERVPRO techs:

  • Wear head to toe protective gear
  • Test the water to determine the presence of any harmful elements
  • Dispose of the water per state and federal regs
  • Use professional-grade antimicrobial and antibacterial cleaning agents

The instantly recognizable musty odor that water can leave behind in a house gets neutralized through the use of the advanced equipment SERVPRO techs bring on-site. When the techs complete the restoration services, there are no reminders of the previous water loss.

When your home needs water damage restoration, call SERVPRO of Western Union County at (908) 791-9177. The certified technicians have comprehensive training to bring your home back to its preloss condition.

Why Remediation And Not Mold Removal For Your New Providence Home

There is substantial confusion to what qualified technicians can do in your New Providence home or business to contend with present mold growth. With the rapid spread of this hazardous organism, you need to know what your options are as soon as possible. The best solution is trusting in the accredited and renowned remediation division of our SERVPRO team. Our technicians have endorsements through both the Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) and the National Organization of Remediators and Mold Inspectors (NORMI.) Combined, these accreditations provide skilled remediation assistance to your doorstep in a short time after you call.

While there might be numerous approaches for mold damage in New Providence homes, you must first appreciate your need for professional mold remediation. Many area cleaning and restoration teams might offer mold removal services, but this is not possible. Spores exist naturally in every environment, so there is no simple approach or compelling reason to remove them all. In any of these situations, the objective is to limit the damage that actual spreading mold colonization causes, and that begins with a thorough assessment of the property.

Remediation involves a substantial amount of equipment and products, as the objective is to limit the spread of these conditions as much as possible. Our SERVPRO team can catalog where mold colonization exists and what materials might need controlled demolition or mold colony removal strategies. With the use of practices like antimicrobial sprays, sanding, and soda blasting, we can often remove the entire organism non-invasively.

Because of the potential for volatile organic compounds and other airborne threats, addressing active colonization quickly is vital. We have air filtering equipment like our hydroxyl generators and negative air machines that can help to prevent the spread of active spores and any debris circulating through the affected areas. Controlled demolition strategies can prevent the time and money invested in making mold losses “Like it never even happened.”

Mold can catch homeowners by surprise. With so many options to choose, you can count on our SERVPRO of Western Union County team to provide an honest and thorough assessment followed by the most efficient mitigation and restoration practices available. Give our skilled technicians a call anytime that you need us at (908) 791-9177.

Our SERVPRO of Western Union County family is just as important to us as your family is to you! As a business, we take pride in how we are more than just coworkers. Each and every employee truly cares about one another. Whether it be buying them lunch or lending their tools, they show us how much they care about each other every single day. For example, for our owner and boss's birthday, we surprised him with a party in our warehouse and lunch at a local restaurant! As a business, we feel it is imperative to create a great experience not only for our customers but our employees as well. Without them, we would not be able to make it seem "Like it never even happened!"

Welcome to the Pet Adoption Day!

Each year, we host our annual Pet Adoption Day to help local animal shelters in our area. Ever since our first year, we have been more and more successful in helping find dogs and cats their forever homes. This event is our favorite event that we host by far! The look children's faces when they know they have found the perfect addition to family is priceless.

Here at SERVPRO of Western Union County, we know how important it is to give back to the community we serve and that is why we do events like this every year. We are so grateful for our community and that we are able to do our part in making it better! Without them, we would not be where we are today!

Sewage Backup in a Commercial Building in Fanwood, NJ

Check out this before and after!

A commercial building in Fanwood, NJ called us recently about a sewage backup in one of their bathrooms. We got a crew chief out to them the same day so we could see what we were dealing with. After evaluating the damage and identifying the course of action, we got a crew in there to begin the cleanup process. The after picture was taken only a few days after we got the call about the backup. The landlord was extremely pleased that we were able to clean up the sewage and water so quickly and that there was no odor left behind. This is what they had to say about our work:

"When one of our toilets backed up in our bathroom, to say we were shocked is an understatement. After doing some research, we decided our best bet would be to go with SERVPRO of Western Union County. After our first phone call, I knew we had made the right decision. I am so glad I decided to give them a call. I don't think any other company would have been able to get the job done like they did. They truly are amazing!" - Andrew. F - Fanwood, NJ
